Hello Aline!
ReplyDeleteI'm back in SL after a very long absence and I discovered your blog as a source of wonderful inspiration for my everyday shopping as I just realized a couple of things like invisiprims don't exist anymore, or meshes have invaded the grid, and blablabla... (yes I feel quite old now, and my absence has been veeeeeery long ^^).
I love the style of your pictures and I would like to make some too, for my own private use (I don't feel like blogging anymore, I just don't have the time to do it!)... I was wondering how you could obtain these shadows effects and this great great 3D effect I can't have in world with the official SL viewer... I imagine that you've been asked this question before and you may be tired of it (please tell me you're not ^^), but if you could help me in any way to have pictures of my avatar close to what you can achieve yourself I would be very grateful! Do you use an alternate viewer? Could you share any info, tips or tricks with me?
Happy new year to you, and see you very soon :)
Lolaa
Hello, Lolaa !
DeleteWelcome back !
I'm glad that my blog is a source of inspiration for you as that is one of the reason to have a blog - to share my personal taste and opinion of what i believe is beautiful and good quality in sl.
About my pictures - from you have asked:
Shadows - it is not a photoshop effect; if you have a graphic card that support you just need to enable shadows - you may check out the best specifications to run sl on http://secondlife.com/support/system-requirements/?lang=fr-FR
After enabling shadows you need to choose a sky preset that allows you to have an appropriate shadow for pics (on the pic above i used Fairy dark blue Paulina that is already available on the viewer - i use Firestorm but you have shadows also on the official viewer.)
3D effect ? I dont use it. If you are talking about 3 different pictures in one it is only taking 3 different pics and using the crop tool to put them together and for this, if you dont know how to do you may want to use google search to look for some tutorials of what you want to learn - that is how i do when i'm willing to make something on my pics and that is how i have learned some 'tricks' and i dont think i could help you here because that is the kind of thing that i know to my use but i'm not able to explain, to teach other person, sorry.
If you think i can help you in anything else contact me inworld.
Happy new year, Lolaa.
Thank you so much for this clear and interesting answer!
DeleteIn fact I HAD already enabled shadows but I was desperately trying to see them INSIDE while they can only appear outside (at least for now, but I think I could manage to build a light projector of some sort... give me a couple of years ^^ (OK I'll buy some, who knows)).
Thanks for sharing your sky preset, which is really great. I have found some others by Juicy Bomb, they are wonderful, allow me to give you a link if ever I can be of any use to you after what you've done for me :) (http://juicybomb.com/2012/07/16/juicybomb-com-studio-windlight-settings/).
When I left SL, which was about 3 years and a half ago (wow THAT's long ^^), what we could see in the viewer was far from what can be seen now. I have been practising 3D (playing with pre-existing 3D models, not modelling myself) in other programs like Poser since then, and the result was far more interesting... but now I see that SL has really improved in the field of graphics and your pictures show very weel that SL can now achieve a sort of '3D effect' much more than a 'look I've used Paint to draw my avatar' :)... your pictures showed that to me, a lot!
Again, thank you deeply for your help, and have a wonderful day!
Lolaa
Heyas, Lolaa !
DeleteYou are welcome - and im glad that you found out what was the issue with your shadows.
I already have these windlights from Gogo and even commented about it at the time (just a small note and a link back to her blog).
Anyway thanks for the intention.
And yes, SL has changed over the years (thankfully) - Good to know you are enjoying your way back.
